How to start your own fashion blog

So, fashionistas, you wish to start a blog and have no clue what you need? Don’t worry, I am here to help you out!

First things first – make a plan!

So you have found your niche. However decide which topics you will cover; would it be an haute couture, a street fashion or a fashion gossip site?

Break your site into categories. This will help you to plan  and create your content. Here’s exactly what you need to do to plan an awesome blog:

  1. Start with a simple survey.
  2. Explore your topics.
  3. Know how often you can realistically publish.
  4. Plan your content.

Listen here to Helen Nugent, she has a point!

If you are also looking for more information about planning your blog, I really like this blog post ByRegina.com. It explains in detail how to plan your blog and set your goals.

Acquire a domain name!

If you are going to run a fashion blog, you gonna need a catchy name. Think of a name that will separate you from all the other fashion blog that are already online. The name needs to be small and rememberable.

At the same time, you need to find a domain name. Pick the perfect domain name that will represent your blog. Check the domain name availability at GoDaddy site.

For example, my domain name is anastasiak.sg-host.com it is short, rememberable and with meaning 😉 .

Choose a hosting company

You can start small, choose a shared web hosting company.

Find a quality blog hosting company. Many hosting companies may be quite cheap, but you probably will regret that you spend your money on it, in the end. Your server will be down and your site will be loading slow most of the time.

My favorite is SiteGround, but of course, you can choose one of the WordPress most recommended.

Your site platform

And of course your blogging platform is going to be WordPress, you do not have to argue here, it is decided!

How your site will look like?

This is a very important step!  Statistically, your visitors will decide to read or not to read your content at first 3 seconds once they land on your site. 80% of your visitors will leave if they don’t like your site appearance.

There is a big amount of WordPress themes out there, you can choose free or a premium theme.

If you are low on budget, check out the WordPress theme directory. My favorite blog themes are Edge, Activello, Olsen & EasyBlog.

If you are curious, my site is built with the Upfront theme by WPMU DEV. Of course, there is a big gamma of premium themes, have a look at ThemeForest site for ideas.

Content

Always be original – that’s a law! Content matter the most and your site popularity is counting on it.

Break your content into smaller paragraphs so it’s easy to read (only 16% of people read posts word for word).

Instead of rushing through a post, follow these key moments to make a better post:

  1. Choose a topic.
  2. Write an opening line to draw more attention
  3. Separate your post to the points.
  4. Interact with your readers, create a call to action content to make your readers do something.
  5. Always check your post for mistakes. Spend some time fixing errors.
  6. Post blogs frequently, minimum once a week.

Great read, but I just can’t stop thinking why the habit “Put first things first” is habit #3 😀
